Wild Biluochun Green Tea

I received this sampler for free, but my opinions are entirely my own.

My notes are based on gongfu steepings, and it was brewed at 80C.

This is a really nice tea. It's full-bodied, mellow, and bright. The flavor has a gentle vegetal character, reminding me much of freshly steamed spinach and young greens. There's a natural sweetness that becomes more noticeable as the leaves open up. I also picked up some strong umami notes, similar to those in Sencha. The tea’s complexity is evident but not overwhelming, making it an enjoyable and approachable choice for both seasoned drinkers and newcomers.

This balanced, but still very nuanced profile makes it an appropriate choice for any time of day. I typically drink in the morning and afternoon, but this would certainly make for a great evening tea as well. You may want to experiment with temperatures and brewing styles to figure out what works best for you if you pick up this tea. Gongfu at 80C is what I liked the most, but greens are versatile and can taste very different depending on your methodology.

Overall, this tea is a really great value in its price range and I can recommend it.

Very interesting tea, it was quite unique experience both in taste and smell.

In terms of aroma of leaves it is has quite apple-like aroma, it's little bit of woody, it also have some notes that reminds of old shed or something like that. Post brewed leaves goes more into more vegetable notes with some "burned" notes for lack of a better word to describe it. In terms of the taste it was very interesting, gennerally the tea was relatively bitter with a very little of sweetness, yet it had a complex, well rounded taste. The taste had some apple-like notes along with woody ones, it also had a taste that reminds of burning or of burned coal. With time the taste evolves into subtle vanilla like sweetness. Enjoyed it very much!

I am not at all a green tea fan, on the contrary I found a lot of green teas, I've had until now too mild for my taste. This here not only tasted somehow different, than other green teas I had, but also had a pretty bold taste. It had a slight acidity, but there was also a strong fruitiness, maybe reminescent of a biluochun. It reminded us a bit of yuzu or grapefruit, but there were also your more classical green tea aromas like cream, walnut and umami. All in all it was one of the tastiest green teas, I've ever had

People often think afternoon tea should be reserved for black teas. I think they're wrong. A tea like this is wonderful on its own but also amazing served with a savory rosemary biscuit and a gentle cucumber sandwich. Using Gong fu brewing is best I have found, however, western style brewing can also release unique attributes. Though do be careful as I found western style brewing releases more bitter notes. Dry aroma: A drying feeling in the mouth. Dried leaves. The aroma of the wok after using the wok to dry the leaves. Initial aroma is the same. The flavor is so nice… Fresh. Vegetal. Cooked veggies. A slight metallic taste like I liked a piece of steel. Yeah… don’t add that to the marketing. That won’t sell this tea. Also summer florals.
Wet leaf: At first I smell overcooked veggies but then it changes to a bit of cigar and cigarette smoke. Not strongly to make it dissatisfying but enough to crinkle the nose. This tea is okay to walk away from but the first 1 – 3 minutes reveal the best flavors.

This is a more assertive green tea than I was expecting. The leaves gave off a grassy, vegetal aroma with what I thought was a hint of smokiness. I got notes of fiddlehead ferns in later infusions. This is would make a good daily drinker, I think.
